Pretty Plots of Love utilizes symbolic elements set in an interactive environment. The piece operates as a “lure” under the guise of “allure.” The top tier’s pedestal is activated by means of a pressure sensitive control-mate placed on the floor and the bride’s dress and cake “come to life” when the viewer enters the exhibition space. The entire environment of Pretty Plots of Love serves as a vehicle formulated around the idea of fairy tales and preconceived notions of marriage and/or togetherness. Thus, a parody of traditional wedding ceremonies enacts a deconstruction of gender representations.

The elements of sight and smell infuse the fabric the piece. Hologram glitter mixed with white pearlesque coloring permeates the dress’ fabric to attract that “special someone.” Infused smells include: Lure-Craft Lunker Scent Tournament Pro, which guarantees a bountiful catch, cherry fragrance denoting innocence, and crawfish scent (a word play on Crawford). The dress is classically styled, but made of industrial fishing lure material, thus becoming a metaphorical “marriage” of the modern and classic, industry and tradition.
